Anubias barteri var. ‘Nana’ (Mother Pot)

Anubias barteri ‘Nana’ is a popular, compact variety of Anubias suited for aquariums of all sizes. Its slow-growing nature and tough, dark green leaves make it a durable choice for both beginners and advanced aquarists. Typically, the plant grows up to 5 inches tall, featuring broad leaves that emerge from a central rhizome. This plant thrives under low to medium light and can survive in a range of water conditions, making it very adaptable. Anubias barteri ‘Nana’ is commonly attached to rocks or driftwood in an aquarium setup, rather than being planted directly in substrate, to prevent the rhizome from rotting. This placement also adds a natural aesthetic to the tank.

As epiphytes, Anubias can be planted above the substrate or attached to hardscape elements like driftwood and rocks. Avoid burying the rhizome, as this will cause the plant to melt and eventually die. While Anubias can survive in low-tech setups, injecting CO2 and using high-quality aquarium soil will promote faster growth and lush foliage
