Cholla Driftwood

Cholla driftwood, originating from the dried husks of the Cholla cactus, is a popular choice in aquariums for its unique appearance and benefits. Its porous texture provides an ideal surface for beneficial biofilm to develop, providing an excellent natural food source for shrimp and snails. When submerged, cholla releases tannins, which can slightly tint the water, mimicking natural habitats and providing potential health benefits for fish. Before adding it to an aquarium, boiling the driftwood is recommended to remove any dirt, excess tannins, and to prevent it from floating. Cholla is a great option for tanks with shrimp or small fish. However, caution should be exercised as the numerous holes and crevices in the wood can pose a risk for some fish to get stuck.
